Dubai Airport Trials Tech to Skip Laptop, Liquid Checks

Passengers traveling through Dubai International Airport (DXB) may soon enjoy a faster, more seamless security experience, thanks to new screening technology currently under trial. The upgraded system will eliminate the need to remove liquids over 100ml or laptops from hand luggage at checkpoints—transforming one of the most tedious steps of air travel.

The state-of-the-art scanners, supplied by UK-based Smiths Detection, are being installed across Terminals 1, 2, and 3. The new machines aim to improve both the quality and speed of baggage screening, enhancing security while significantly cutting wait times.

Trials of the technology have reportedly been highly successful, showing not only faster processing but also improved reliability. The new system is already operational at several international airports, indicating a wider industry shift toward smarter, passenger-friendly solutions.

While there’s no fixed rollout date yet, the full implementation will depend on equipment delivery and installation schedules. However, once in place, travelers can look forward to a smoother airport journey—spending less time in lines and more time relaxing, shopping, or enjoying DXB’s many amenities.

This initiative is part of Dubai Airports’ broader strategy to boost operational efficiency without expanding physical infrastructure, especially as passenger traffic continues to soar, with DXB recording over 46 million passengers in the first half of 2025 alone.
