Advice & Guidance
Plan Ahead and Check Visas
Before embarking on your journey, take the time to research Dubai’s visa requirements. While many travelers can obtain visas upon arrival, it’s crucial to confirm whether your nationality requires any pre-arrangements. By preparing the necessary documentation in advance, such as passport details and proof of accommodation, you can avoid potential hassles during your stopover.
If you’re traveling with Emirates Airline, the Airlines takes care of everything, from arranging a meet and greet at the airport to offering 24-hour check-in services, guided tours, excursions, and more. After booking your flight, simply reach out to your local Emirates office or travel agent to make the necessary arrangements. They can also assist with visa requirements if needed.
Pick the Right Duration
When scheduling your layover in Dubai, consider the amount of time needed to truly experience the city’s highlights. While a brief stopover of 8-10 hours allows for a glimpse of Dubai’s attractions, opting for a longer layover provides the opportunity for a more immersive exploration. Aim for a duration that strikes a balance between sampling the city’s offerings and ensuring you catch your connecting flight comfortably.
Luggage Concerns
Travelers with brief layovers have the option to utilize the “left luggage” services available at Terminals 1 or 3. For a nominal fee starting at AED 35 (approximately US$10) per bag for a duration of 12 hours, passengers can securely store their belongings. This service is accessible to both incoming and outgoing travelers, providing convenience and peace of mind during short stopovers in Dubai.
Due to Dubai International Airport policies, checked baggage cannot be brought into the terminal. If your luggage is tagged only to Dubai, you can transfer it to your next flight at the Connection Desk inside the airport, without exiting. Please verify luggage transfer details with your airline.
Note: Dubai International Hotel is located before Customs and Immigration. If you exit, you’ll need to check in again to access the hotel. Ensure your luggage transfer is completed within the terminal and keep your hand baggage with essential items for transit.
Connectivity Options
Accessing the internet upon arrival at Dubai International (DXB) or Al Maktoum International Airport (DWC) is effortless, thanks to the airport’s ‘WOW-Fi’ network. During your stopover, remember to request your complimentary SIM card at the immigration counter. These cards are provided to all Dubai tourists and come preloaded with minutes and data, ensuring you stay connected throughout your stay. Plus, they can be easily topped up to suit your needs for the duration of your visit.
Try Local Cuisine
Dubai’s culinary scene is as diverse as its population, offering a tantalizing array of flavors and cuisines to savor. Take the opportunity to indulge in traditional Emirati dishes, sample global fare at cosmopolitan eateries, or explore bustling markets brimming with local delicacies. From aromatic spices to decadent desserts, Dubai’s food scene promises a gastronomic adventure for every palate.
Dress Modestly
Dubai’s climate can be unforgiving, especially during the sweltering summer months. Beat the heat by staying hydrated and dressing in lightweight, breathable clothing. Additionally, when visiting religious sites or cultural attractions, adhere to modest dress codes out of respect for local customs and traditions. By staying comfortable and respectful, you’ll be able to enjoy your layover to the fullest.
Efficient Transportation
Navigating Dubai’s sprawling landscape is made easy thanks to its efficient transportation network. Whether you opt for the sleek Dubai Metro, reliable taxis, or convenient ride-sharing services, getting around the city is seamless and straightforward. Plan your transportation strategy in advance to optimize your time and ensure you reach your desired destinations promptly.
Time & Traffic
Keep in mind the nuances of Dubai’s traffic patterns and airport logistics when planning your layover itinerary. Be mindful of peak traffic hours and allocate sufficient time for travel to and from the airport to avoid any last-minute rushes or delays. Arrive at the airport well in advance of your connecting flight, allowing ample time for security checks and boarding procedures. With careful planning and foresight, you can make the most of your Dubai layover and create unforgettable memories in the city of wonders.
