Dubai taxi drivers have successfully returned various lost items to customers, from glasses and wallets to diamonds worth Dh1 million. According to Dubai’s Roads and Transport Authority (RTA), there’s a 99.9% chance of recovering items left in taxis.
To report a lost item, you can call the RTA call center at 800 9090 or use the ‘S’hail’ app. When reporting, provide details such as the time of your trip, route, taxi roof color, and plate number. The ‘S’hail’ app offers a step-by-step guide to filing reports:
- Download the ‘S’hail’ app (available for Apple, Android, and Huawei devices).
- Open the app and tap on the ‘more’ icon on the bottom left corner.
- Scroll down to the ‘feedback’ category.
- Enter your mobile number and email address.
- Select the ‘Taxi Lost and Found’ option from the drop-down menu.
- Describe the lost item and provide trip details (route, date, time, receipt).
- Tap ‘Send Feedback’.
Once the report is submitted, you’ll receive an SMS with the status and the taxi driver’s contact number. The driver will return the item to your location or a meeting point for a metered fare. Retrieval typically takes three to ten days, but many items are returned within hours or days.
